Today is Iowa and Nebraska. I’m heading for Des Moines now, and hitting Omaha, then the Capitol in Lincoln, and then staying with tcfootball for the night.

Roadtrip Blog from Timbo's 84 Scirocco
Rob made Deer steaks for the BBQ. He invited members of the kch2o.org board – the local VW forum for Kansas City. Great turnout, I thank all who came! This is a great community here. I got lots of new names on the map, and many donations for the fuel fund!
Some pictures from yesterday…
I’m back. I’m staying tomorow too for a BBQ that mrlee is holding.
I removed extra stuff from the car, the Mk1 scirocco spoiler, the 16v head and container, my clothes, my cooler, my bathroom stuffs, and my food. The tools and spare tire stayed in the car. On the trip to Topeka, I filled up at a gas station here, and topped to the second click. I drove to Topeka at the speed limit (mostly 70 mph), drove around the capitol for a bit, then returned to here, and filled up again at the same gas station, at the same pump, to the second click again. Here are the results:
That’s 37.05 MPG for that trip. If I heald it to 55, I would have gotten much better!
I’m in Kansas’ state Capital, Topeka. I took my Capitol pictures from several different angles. Too bad that mile marker ruined my Welcome to Kansas picture… I had to take the Kansas Turnpike, costs $2.15 each way. In the toll plaza, I saw a Deka truck – a battery manufacturing company located near where I leave in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
It is REALLY hot today – my thermometer in my car reads 105.1F!
Springfield was crowded, but it had a nice capitol.
I’m in Missouri now, heading for Jefferson City.
Indianapolis was a cool city, and the Indiana state capitol was beautiful! The pictures are very bright because the sun was right behind the Capitol.
I am at the Indiana welcome center rest area. I left Dayton at 5:30 AM, and I am headed for Indianapolis.
Today I am also going to hit Springfield, Illinois, and Jefferson City, Missouri.
Tonight I will stay with mrlee in Kansas City.
Today, we flew south to Lunken Airport to meet up at the Sky Galley resturant in the old terminal.
We flew to Lima, OH to pick up a 16v cylinder head which I will deliver to Karl in Colorado.
Cathy Boyko signed my hood, and she made a special-edition PURPLE thumbtack for where she lives in Canadia! 😀 (Yes, Canada is spelled like that intentionally); see the post below for pictures of her PURPLE Scirocco!
Last night went to the REAL Crispie Creme Donut store in Chillicothe, OH.
Today, we flew in Daun’s Cessna 172 to Urbana, OH to have breakfast. On the way, we saw Dayton, OH, and the Air Force Air and Space Museum. We met friends at Urbana, OH. We flew in formation out of there. From the air we saw the F-16s parked at Springfield-Beckley.
Then we rode in Daun’s Mk1 Scirocco to a flea market, and I bought a thermoelectric cooler for $20. Maybe that will keep me from having to carry 40lbs of Ice!!
Next, we returned to the airport at Clinton County, and saw the Ohio Highway Patrol aircraft – the one on the signs marked “Speed enforced from aircraft”. We flew back in a tail dragger Cessna 180.
Next: we fly a Piper Arrow.
Cathy is on a crazy roadtrip herself! The Purple car came from Florida, and it’s been just about everywhere. She was in town with Daun and Brad after visiting Oshkosh.
I met up with upoo2 for some Kentucky Fried Chicken in Louisville, KY. That’s where it started, you know…
Then drove to Frankfort for the Capitol, and took a beautiful US highway up to Cincinnati, then finally on to Dayton to Daun’s place.
Popped into and out of Nashville this morning, and got a great picture of the capitol building. Then I saw this Lotus. Nate’s dad talked about a classic car show in Cincinnati today.
My last tank of fuel got me 38.4 MPG!
Thanks to Nate (Fugn Dubbin) for letting me stay at his place, and showing me the best time in any city! This was awesome!!
Went to Graceland and signed the wall.
Then we went back into Arkansas to take pictures of the city. There was a fire burning, so we went into Memphis to find that fire. It turned out to be an abandoned paper mill on fire…
We also visited the Civil Rights museum, where Martin Luther King, Jr was shot.
